ABOUT US
THE HISTORY AND STORY OF NEW GROUND
What began as a simple idea among friends—to see what it might sound like to sing together as a gospel trio—soon became the foundation of a ministry far greater than anyone imagined. That first casual gathering, meant for just a few church services and gospel events, has since grown into a lasting work of ministry that has endured for more than three decades.

Today, New Ground is celebrating 32 years of sharing the Gospel through song. With more than 3,500 appearances to their name, their music has carried them from their hometown of Scottsboro, Alabama, to Juneau, Alaska, and even across the ocean to Scotland, touching hearts and lives in countless places along the way.

From the very beginning, New Ground has remained true to its calling: to present gospel music without compromise. Their journey has been filled with extraordinary opportunities, unforgettable moments of ministry, and a steadfast commitment to uplifting the name of Christ through every note. Founders Dale and Robbie Maxwell continue to carry the vision God placed in their hearts, joined by longtime member David Owens, who is now marking 29 years with the group—a testament to the unity and shared purpose that defines New Ground.

Looking back with gratitude and forward with expectation, New Ground stands firm in their mission. In 2025, to the surprise and delight of their fan base, the group reintroduced a live band to their concerts after nearly 15 years. While not traveling with them full-time, the band has already joined New Ground for more than 20 dates in 2025, quickly becoming one of the most requested elements of their ministry. The lineup includes Nathan Burns (Piano), Jason Brown (Bass), Ben Sharp (Drums), and David Holt (Sound Technician)—a team that adds both dynamic energy and heartfelt expression to every performance.

New Ground’s story is one of faith, endurance, and God’s continued faithfulness. And while the past three decades have been filled with extraordinary moments, they firmly believe the most meaningful chapters are still to come.
